Enlightenment, Tatoos + Your Masterful Life

Have you ever spotted a Unalome? No, it’s not a cousin to the Unicorn, though perhaps as mysterious. Interestingly, it is a very popular image for tattoos. If I were inclined, it might be what I’d choose…  I just learned this sacred insignia is an ancient symbol of Buddhist design. The guidance in its simplicity is fascinating.

My fascination stems from how much it resembles the path of Masterful Life Redesign, my work / life design program for folks ready to change their career trajectory.

 

The Unalome Begins

This beautiful line drawing starts with a depiction of birth, the spark of life. What follows it the spiral of development where we come into our own lives, innate gifts and talents – uniquely our own. Labeled chaos, it is really the process of realizing the essence of who we are, and being pleased with who we are. Any exploration of what’s next also benefits from re-tracing that development, to understand and appreciate that unique brilliance.

 

Twists and Turns

That stage is followed by a line that twists and turns, back and forth. It represents growth. Life’s lessons and experiences, often by trial and error, come to define the mastery each of us develops. Likewise unique, that mastery relates to the problems only we are able to solve, people only we will touch, and contributions only we can make in the way no one else can.

It’s the WHY of why we’re here. And when we come to accept, respect and appreciate that about ourselves… well, a transition to Nirvana is a much better description than human maturation in the diagram.

Understanding ourselves in this way, who we are and ‘why we’re here,’ is the path toward joy and contentment – the feeling states of nirvana. That’s when we realize we need not compete with anyone, that we are here for a special and good reason that can be exceedingly satisfying if we are employing all that in work we love and living life in a way that is truly satisfying – to ourselves. Not pleasing others, but serving them in a way that pleases US.

THAT is the win-win.

  • Are you coming to that place on your career and life path?

  • Have you reached a point of readiness to let go of struggle and fully embrace all that?

The Upward Moving Line

Because what comes next – in the diagram and in the mastery you have developed along the way – is represented by an upward moving line. It is about coming into a solid sense of appreciation for your unique brilliance, without questioning or struggle – and actively contributing it through your chosen work and relationships in your preferred environments.

The upward moving line represents life as it unfolds into smooth stability, filled with meaning, values and wholehearted choices – shooting for and getting what you want in and for your life.

 

Enlightenment – What’s That?!

The three dots at the top represent enlightenment. Prussian philosopher Immanuel Kant’s rather lackluster essay aside (times were tough in 1784), Eastern philosophy considered enlightenment thousands of years ago.

Kant’s world is a lot more like the current age where we are bombarded by technology, pundits, and others who think FOR us. Enlightenment from an Eastern perspective is more about what results when we take the time to seek OUR OWN inner-peace, happiness and sense of fulfillment.

That form of enlightenment is what I call the Exceptional Life that is available to you. It is what you choose your own life fulfillment to be – and includes meaningful work and contribution, along with as much personal satisfaction and even fun as you can hold.

Those dots are the ellipsis of what comes next, and next, and next… based on YOUR design for your one precious life.

 

What I Truly Know

Here it is: I truly know ALL that is available to you. I agree with what ancient sages have been telling us through the ages.

And you can reach it faster than you might ever imagine. It simply takes doing things a bit differently than you have been: to engage in some enjoyable reflection and self-discovery… some custom design and design… and some small steps in a new direction.

All that is better accomplished with guidance and support, and a community – the company of others who can help illuminate the path with you. THAT is Masterful Life Redesign.
